For more dumpling options, feel free to explore our Chinese restaurant map. This map includes a plethora of different types, but does not delve into dumplings like tamales, empanadas, or ravioli this map also sticks to filled dumplings, not solid ones that might appear in dishes like chicken and dumplings. While dumplings come in many shapes and sizes, nobody can truly define the boundaries of what is and is not considered a dumpling it’s as futile as definitively deciding whether a hot dog is a sandwich. With a sizable Eastern European population and a growing Asian American population, Portland’s dumpling game has gotten stronger than ever, with several global variations represented within city limits. Nearly every culture has some version of a filled, unleavened parcel, whether it’s one of many regional Chinese styles, Japanese gyoza, Russian pelmeni, or Nepalese momos. Honestly, I would eat almost everything on the menu (and probably have by now–I've been there more times than I can count) but for brevity's sake, I'll list few of my favorites: 1) Spicy Pork Belly Bun Everything I've ever had there is something I would eat again. The last time I ate there I was home and passed out on my couch deep in a food coma by 8:30 pm (this is a definite glowing review from me). ![]() I've mentioned the food is unique, but what's obviously more important is that it's delicious. Situated below a rock club, the edgy-vibe and the relaxed-upscale feel of the restaurant coupled with the uniqueness of the dishes makes one feel better about eating massive quantities of Chinese food. The restaurant's hip vibe and fresh take on classic Dim Sum has made it one of Portland's hottest eateries. According to Leong, House of Louie was once at the center of a robust Chinatown, with a dozen Chinese restaurants including at least three dim sum restaurants within a block or two of Northwest. By adding your email you agree to get updates about Spoon University HealthierĮmpire Chinese Kitchen has consistently been one of my favorite restaurants in Portland, and it's easily the best Chinese restaurant. ![]()
