There were also plenty of other complaints, among them being the dubious safety standards of such a design, the probable feeling of claustrophobia for passengers, and also the risk of getting directly blasted by farts for those seated in the lower rows. "You could fit more people into a jet by blending them into a fine slurry before boarding," one said, while another said that the design was akin to "treating customers like cattle". On Reddit, users made fun of the design, with many pointing out the way it would be jumped upon by airlines who want to squeeze as many passengers as they can into a flight. While as well-intentioned as it may all sound, the design certainly hasn't prevented an onslaught of derision and objections from those on the internet who have seen it. "My purpose here is to change the economy class seats for the better of humanity, or for all the people that cannot afford to pay for more expensive seats," Alejandro said to CNN in an interview. Passengers in the top row can also enjoy a little more room than usual by reclining their seats backwards further than is allowed in a typical cabin setting. The seating arrangement works just as you see: Rows of three seats stacked in an alternating pattern to allow passengers in the bottom row more room by tucking their legs under the seats above and ahead of them. The new design was created by Alejandro Núñez Vicente as a college project, and became nominated for the 2021 Crystal Cabin Award – a coveted innovation prize within the aviation industry – for its ability to solve legroom issues while still accommodating a large number of passengers within a cabin. Recently, there's been much fuss over the proposed design for what seems to be a double-decker-style seating arrangement for airplanes, with people generally appalled by the idea of an economy class cabin being even more cramped than it already is. ![]()
